Aside from being a photographer, Nicole is an aspiring young filmmaker who has directed and produced countless fiction films in the horror and drama genre. Before directing and producing, Nicole has worked on numerous student and professional film sets as a personal assistant, production designer, camera operator, sound mixer/boom operator, and more. She has a passion for the psychological horror genre as she cites Alfred Hitchcock and Jordan Peele as huge inspirations. Her directorial debut of her horror film Walls (2018) screened at the Film at Mason Film Festival and received positive reviews from audiences.
Nicole has recently stepped out of the horror genre and into the drama genre with her senior thesis film, Mi Tierra Querida (2019). This film follows the story of an immigrant man from Bolivia struggling to make a living in 1993 America while also caring for his pregnant fiancée. This film holds a special place in Nicole’s heart as she adapted the screenplay from her own parent’s immigration journey. After holding onto the screenplay for over 2 years, she directed and produced this film in October 2019 and premiered at the Film at Mason Fall Film Showcase in December 2019. It won the “Stories That Matter (Best Documentary)” Award and is expected to travel the film festival circuit nationwide.
Being a first generation Bolivian-American and woman of color, Nicole is destined to continue working on films that deal with social and political issues as she believes she’s apart of a generation of change. She hopes her films will impact those who still sit in silence and inspire them to raise their voices.
